SUMMARY:Creating Social Change Through Innovation
DESCRIPTION:View it on YouTube \n\nPresenter: Joe McLean\nOrganisation: Triple P International \nJoe McLean is the Head of Strategy and Growth for Triple P International. Triple P International is a Brisbane-based company that disseminates the world’s leading evidence-based parenting education and support program the Triple P – Positive Parenting Program. Triple P is now in 25 countries and has been translated into 19 languages. Joe is responsible for leading company strategy and growth in new and existing markets. \nJoe has had 15 years working in the commercialisation of social science-based research and expertise. He led the development of the social sciences and humanities group at The University of Queensland’s main commercialisation company\, UniQuest\, and was Director of UQ’s International Development group immediately prior to joining Triple P International. Joe has served on the boards of start-up companies and has helped take a number of social programs into Australian and international markets. \nTopic:\nThe traditional view of business was that the only goal is profit. Going back to the industrial revolution\, many people thought that private industry (capital) was in a battle with people (the workers) and nature to maximise profits at the expense of both. A lot of people still hold this view. \nIn recent decades\, the perception that business is just about making profit has changed as the corporate private sector has matured. Businesses now talk about having a ‘social licence’ to operate and being ‘good corporate citizens’. \nThis webinar will explore the relationship between business and social change; the market for social innovations; tips for taking social products to market; and financing social innovation.
