SUMMARY:Webinar: Risk and Reputation
DESCRIPTION:Presenter: Dr Andrew Powell\nOrganisation: Asia BioBusiness Pte Ltd \nDr Andrew Powell is currently the CEO of Asia BioBusiness Pte. Ltd. in Singapore. Now a resident of Asia for almost 30 years\, Dr Powell advances the bio-based business agendas of clients from both the public and private sector and advises on risk management strategies\, with
a special focus on regulatory\, technology and market risks. He is also a risk communication practitioner and has worked on projects for CropLife Australia\, CropLife Asia\, Monsanto\, USDA\, APEC\, Biotech Corp of Malaysia\, the Chilean Ministry of Agriculture\, and the Life Science Association of Manitoba. \nDr Powell received his BSc (Hons) in Biology from the University of Edinburgh\, Scotland and his PhD in Plant Physiology from the University of Calgary\, Canada. He has held research positions at the University of Guelph\, Canada; the National Institute for Human Sciences in Tokyo and Tsukuba\, Japan; and an academic position at the National University of Singapore. He is on the Advisory Boards of Scientific American WorldView Publication (https://www.saworldview.com)\, and the Rice Bowl Index – a Syngenta initiative that measures the robustness of food security systems in Asia and ANZ (https://www.ricebowlindex.com). \nTOPIC \nRisk and Reputation: managing social trust and the perception of disruptive innovation\nCommunication – letting people know your success and managing negative interest – is a factor that all disruptive innovators should consider early rather than later along their commercialisation journey. It’s part of the de-risking process. \nThe high standards of accountability and transparency that must be met for investors and funding bodies is important; but recognising the social media amplification of the suspicion and risk perceptions often associated with new technologies is critical. Combatting theses risk perceptions (and often lack of trust) with PR strategies or traditional science communication will often not succeed and risk communication strategies need to be put in place. \nIn this webinar\, Dr Andrew Powell from Asia BioBusiness Pte Ltd will describe practical communication strategies to address market risk\, controversy and crisis\, so you can build your credibility and communicate with confidence. \n
